Program details: The festival supports a group of 15 adult learners who have organized a Collegium to study the plays in each GRSF season. The group will meet once a week over 10 weeks from March 29 - May 31 to study Much Ado about Nothing (separate registration) and Hamlet. Actors, directors, and designers are invited to classes to augment script studies.

June 24-28, 2024 from 9am-12pm with Showcase Saturday, June 29, 9:30 a.m.

Program Details:

In this half-day class for our youngest creators, students will be introduced to theater and storytelling through games and familiar folktales and fables. They will learn basic theater exercises which promote confidence, foster positive group dynamics, and bolster the imagination. Students will work together to build safe, respectful, and FUN atmosphere - developing colaboration and concentration skills throughout the week.The program will culminate in a final presentation for friends and families.

Will's Power Players Both Weeks 1 & 2

Classes are held Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm with a showcase Saturday, July 6 and 13 at 9:30 a.m.

Program Details:

In this full-day, two-week-long class, students will play imaginative games, act out out scenes, and create performances based on folktales, fairy tales, fabels and mythology. Students will be introduced to basic theater exercises that promote confidence, foster positive group dynamics, and bolster the imagination. Will's Power Players works on building a respectful community in a safe, supportive atmosphere. Students learn to showcase their natural talents and improve their observation and concentration skills. Class will culminate in a final presentation for friends and family.

Shakespeare for Young Actors (SYA)

Classes are held Tuedays - Saturdays from 10am-4pm with Showcase Sunday, July 21 at 6pm.

Program Details:

This intensive workshop for students entering grades 7-12 introduces young actors to the principles of acting Shakespeare. SYA students work closely with professional actors to understand and interpret Shakespeare’s text. Students of all experience levels will collaborate to learn acting techniques while applying principles of scansion, meter, and text analysis to Shakespeare’s plays. They will also study movement and creative improvisation exercises. All SYA students work with members of the GRSF professional company, get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create a professional Shakespeare production, and attend GRSF’s two Shakespeare productions with their class. Work will culminate in a showcase performance of King Lear.

Shakespeare for Young Designers (SYD)

Program Details:

Shakespeare for Young Designers offers an opportunity for students entering 7th through 12th grade to explore scenic design, costume design, and production strategies in the context of Shakespearean text. This program incorporates elements of the professional design process with students creating their own original text-based design. Students will learn from and work alongside professionals to explore and develop their own approach to storytelling through design. SYD students attend GRSF’s two Shakespeare productions with their class. All materials are included to render designs for King Lear.

Chill with Will: Much Ado about Nothing

Friday Afternoons (Workshops 12pm & Matinees 1pm)

Sponsored by Altra Federal Credit Union

Youth ages 11-18 can enroll in a FREE workshop prior to each Friday afternoon performance. The festival's education team will guide them through theater games and activities related to the show. Past experiences have included a Shakespeare's text workshop, backstage tour, and narrated fight call. Chill with Will participants will then recieve FREE tickets to the afternoon show. Registration includes admission to the workshop and the performance.

Guardians wishing to accompany a student must purchase a ticket separately by calling (507) 474-7900. These additional tickets are available at a discounted rate of $20.
