Great River Shakespeare Festival

Shakespeare for Young Actors (SYA)

with Andrew Carlson

$500

July 2-21, 2024

Classes are held Tuedays - Saturdays from 10am-4pm with Showcase Sunday, July 21 at 6pm.

Program Details:

This intensive workshop for students entering grades 7-12 introduces young actors to the principles of acting Shakespeare. SYA students work closely with professional actors to understand and interpret Shakespeare’s text. Students of all experience levels will collaborate to learn acting techniques while applying principles of scansion, meter, and text analysis to Shakespeare’s plays. They will also study movement and creative improvisation exercises. All SYA students work with members of the GRSF professional company, get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create a professional Shakespeare production, and attend GRSF’s two Shakespeare productions with their class. Work will culminate in a showcase performance of King Lear.

If you are planning to request a scholarship for your student, please contact Aaron A. Young (managingdirector@grsf.org) before registering.
